Antique MEXICAN Cavalry Saber by Eickhorn Solingen
Scarce Late-19th Cent. Sword from Republic of Mexico
This is an antique Republic of Mexico Cavalry Saber, made in Solingen, Prussian in the late 19th Century. Its general design follows the US Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, though it is smaller. This saber could have witness and probably use in chaos that was late-19th Century Mexican events.
The ricasso is marked “LIBERTAD” inside a Phrygian cap with “R.M.” underneath. The other side is trademarked with a pair of squirrels back to back, the mark generally associated with Carl Eickhorn with “R&B” underneath.
The overall condition is very good. The blade is 33 inches in length. The grip is wrapped with leather and braided wire with some leather loss. The brass hilt is in very good condition. The scabbard is black painted iron and shows typical handling and  wear.
